The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved the naming of the new Health Education Building as the “Michael D. Rankin M.D. Health Education Building.”

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Friday for the largest academic building in the history of the University of Kentucky. 

The construction phase of the new University of Kentucky Health Education Building was approved Friday, June 16, 2023 by the UK Board of Trustees.

Dr. Michael D. Rankin, a 1980 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, was honored on July 13, 2021 for his monumental $22 million gift commitment that will transform medical education in Kentucky.

Michael D. Rankin’s gift will support scholarships in the College of Medicine and the construction of a new health education building.
