Faculty Leadership and Development in the SEC
Dear Colleagues,
Each year, the Office for Faculty Advancement helps promote opportunities for faculty growth and development through initiatives such as the Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development Program (SEC-ALDP). This is a highly prestigious program that identifies future academic leaders and helps them develop skills necessary to lead complex organizations and institutions.
Selected fellows of the SEC-ALDP participate in workshops at UK and other SEC campuses, collaborating closely with fellows from the other SEC institutions. Their demonstrated expertise and experience in leadership roles and impactful scholarship and education demonstrate their commitment to UK’s mission of advancing Kentucky.
This year, the SEC-ALDP fellows are:
- Rae Goodwin, associate dean for research/creative activity and professor of art studio, College of Fine Arts — Professor Goodwin empowers faculty, staff and students in their research and creative endeavors, supporting their efforts with guidance in funding policy and procedure, grants workshop series and liaising with the Office of the Vice President for Research. She also serves as acting associate director and acting director of graduate studies in the School of Art and Visual Studies in the college.
- Anthony Limperos, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Communication, College of Communication and Information — Dr. Limperos’ research focuses on media uses and effects, specifically in areas of communication technology, video games, instruction and health. His leadership includes serving as associate dean for the graduate program in communication, and he emphasizes student success as both an educator and administrator.
- Nicole McCoin, M.D., vice dean for faculty affairs and development and professor of emergency medicine, College of Medicine — Dr. McCoin serves more than 1,500 faculty members as vice dean and is deeply committed to education, faculty development and leadership. She has received several honors for her exemplary teaching and leadership.
- Virginia L. Valentin, Dr.P.H., Daus Family Endowed Professor of Physician Assistant Studies and department chair of Physician Assistant Studies, College of Health Sciences — Dr. Valentin has a strong focus on building a world-class health care workforce for Kentucky by developing physician assistant professionals through her leadership and scholarship. She is a devoted and passionate educator, focused on building paths to success for both faculty and students.
Please join us in congratulating each of our SEC-ALDP fellows for this significant accomplishment. For more information on the program, visit the website: https://www.secsports.com/academic-leadership-development-program
